Piggy bank - save $ by barter
Nelson Liem, President of eXmerce Barter Inc., a retail barter exchange providing trade and networking opportunities for small and mid-sized businesses, is a man who wears many hats. Founded in November 2004, eXmerce represents over 170 businesses in the Calgary market and has recently expanded their services into Edmonton. eXmerce continues to add a range of diverse businesses weekly. “We can grow your business for no cash,” says Nelson Liem, President of eXmerce. “Barter is simply a different way of thinking when it comes to marketing. What barter can do for your business is help you to find new customers, save cash, move surplus inventory, and turn your excess time into profit. What many people don’t realize is that barter is legal and is recognized by Revenue Canada.” As an entrepreneur, businessman and active member of the church, Nelson keeps himself busy with many different projects on the go. With the newest addition to his repertoire, writing a book, Nelson’s life is indeed extraordinary.
Nelson is a firm believer that you’re the sum of the 10 people you surround yourself with the most.
Nelson is currently writing a book that is two-fold: It explains what barter
can do for businesses and is also a personal testimony of his experiences
in business and on his faith in God. The book is not just a business resource
on how to grow a business through barter, but a personal journey of Nelson’s
experience on how God has equipped him with the people and tools to run
a successful business. Ultimately, Nelson wants to share his experience
with other business people and entrepreneurs. He believes that everyone
has their own purpose and what’s rested on his heart is simple: Connect
and build a community to foster businesses growth and to share with people
what it means to lead and have faith in God, while running your business.
Apart from writing the book, Nelson is going to be starting up a new faith-based
group called PLUG (Purpose, Life, Unity, God). Its aim is to connect people
with faith with people who may not know God. Through PLUG functions (parties,
wine tasting, restaurants, etc.), he hopes to bridge the gap to connect
people and build relationships.
When asked for advice on starting your own business, Nelson suggested finding a good mentor. “Surround yourself with people who have been in business, have experience, are smart and have different skills and knowledge that can help you grow your company.” Nelson is a firm believer that you’re the sum of the 10 people you surround yourself with the most.
